Things to Do in Chicago

If you’re interested in doing something in the city, here are a few good upcoming options:

  • Isabel Wilkerson, author of The Warmth of Other Suns, will be at Elmhurst College today, lecturing on “The Decision of Their Lives: The Great Migration and the American Story.”
  • On July 30 Coming to America will be shown at the DuSable Museum with activities beginning at 4pm and ending at 11pm.  There will be free popcorn, music, tours, and family activities in addition to the movie.
  • On August 17 Tammy McCann will perform in tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, and Dinah Washington, also at DuSable Museum, from 5:30 to 8:30pm.
  • On August 30 Karate Kid will be shown at the DuSable Museum.  This is the new and improved version of the movie with free popcorn, same as Coming to America.
  • On September 25 the Hyde Park Jazz Festival will take over the neighborhood with 20 hours of jazz in various venues.  Visit the Festival site by clicking here, view the schedule, and search by venue or artist name.
